Fall Arrest System

Construction workers are normally brawny people who rely on their physical brute strength to accomplish the task at hand. This macho image of a construction worker is often times the cause of many fall accidents in the workplace. These workers would defy the rules and regulations specifically made for their safety. In the same manner, employers and construction site managers often ignore the safety measures imposed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).A construction worker made to work on elevated surface such as the roof should be equipped with personal fall arrest system. This consists of body harness that is designed to lessen stress forces on the worker’s body in case of a fall; retractable lanyard, anchorages, stainless cable lifeline, connectors and webbing. These fall arrest system devices once properly assembled will stop the worker’s free fall for more than six feet. The safety lanyard along with the stainless cable lifeline should slow down the fall and limit the distance to a maximum of three feet.

With a fully functioning fall arrest devices, the life of the construction worker will be saved. However other fall preventive measures should also be considered. A guard rail with screen and mesh should be installed. This will effectively prevent the occurrence of accidents.
